Privacy & Safety
All major chatbots collect usage data. Review each provider's controls — OpenAI's Data Controls, Google's AI Studio settings, and Anthropic's console privacy options — before you share anything sensitive.
Core Best Practices (All Users)
- Define the Job. State what you want and why in one or two sentences.
- Give Context. Paste a short example, outline, or key facts so the model isn't guessing.
- Iterate. Treat the chatbot as a partner — ask follow-ups, critique outputs, and refine.
- Use Custom Instructions / Profiles. Store your preferences once so every future chat is tailored.
- Enable/Manage Memory. Let the model remember recurring facts but delete items you no longer need.
- Cross-Check Sources. Ask the AI for links or citations and verify before acting.
Step 1: Pick Your First Chatbot
ChatGPT (OpenAI), Gemini Advanced (Google), and Claude (Anthropic) are all excellent. Start with whichever aligns to your email/login ecosystem.
- Create an OpenAI account and open chat.openai.com.
- Try Gemini or explore the Gemini ecosystem.
- Sign in to Claude.ai or use the Anthropic Console.
Step 2: Set Up Custom Instructions & Memory
In ChatGPT, open Settings → Custom Instructions, describe who you are and what style you prefer. Toggle Memory to on. See OpenAI's FAQ and the Memory announcement.
Step 3: Use Images, Audio, and Files
GPT-4o and Gemini can interpret screenshots, charts, and photos; Claude excels at large documents. Simply drag files or images into chat and ask questions about them.
Step 4: Go Hands-Free with Twilio
Call or text +1 (504) 603-3164 to experience ChatGPT over the phone. See the build thread.
Next Steps & Learning Paths
- OpenAI Quickstart or prompt best-practices.
- LangChain for LLM Apps (optional, dev-oriented).
- Save research in NotebookLM so Gemini can cite your own notes.
